With over one million followers on Instagram and one million monthly listeners on Spotify, newcomer Faouzia proves she is a force to be reckoned with in the pop music scene. The 19-year-old Canadian is starting off her year with a new single titled, “The Road”, which showcases her powerhouse vocals. Since its release in late January the song has already surpassed 1.6M streams on the platform and has racked up over 2M views on YouTube. We caught up with Faouzia after the release to chat about the new single, how she got into music, and what’s to come for the rest of 2020.

Where Did You Grow Up? What Inspired You To Get Into Music?

I was born in Morocco and moved to Canada when I was 1! I grew up in Carman, Manitoba. I have always loved anything creative and have been singing ever since I could and writing ever since I was 5 years old. I learned how to play the piano, guitar, and violin and found myself performing in front of crowds when I was 8 years old. Ever since then, I have continued to grow as an artist because I love doing this so much.

Who Are Some Of Your Music Inspirations?  Why?

My music inspirations are Beyoncé, Rihanna, Sia, and Lady Gaga. These women are so powerful and have had such long careers staying true to themselves. They’re all also extremely amazing songwriters and since I am a songwriter myself, I look up to them very much.

Tell Us About Your Latest Single, “The Road?”

“The Road” is about always growing to be a better person and making sure to embrace your past whether you think it’s flawed or not. You have to learn from your mistake and it’s your past that makes you who you are today.

What Do You Hope People Take Away From The Single After Listening?

I hope people feel good when listening to this song and feel like they can tackle whatever the next step of their journey may be.

What Is Your Writing/Collaboration Process Like?

Either I am writing at my piano (this is what I have always done since I was a little girl) or I am collaborating with producers! When I work with producers, usually they’ll start building an idea and I start writing on this and we all keep building and sharing ideas until there is a final product!

What Can We Expect For 2020?

2020 has so many unknowns at the moment but you can definitely expect a lot more music, so stay tuned! 😉

What Do You Hope You’re Known For?

I hope I’m known for always staying true to myself and helping many people through my music.
