“We Got The Beat,” the lead single from the ‘Valley Girl’ soundtrack, is here to provide some much-needed pop escapism. Based on the classic 1983 film, the forthcoming musical adaptation is set to be released via streaming on May 8th with the soundtrack out the same day via Interscope Records.
The film follows Julie (Jessica Rothe) as the ultimate ’80s valley girl whose idyllic life is turned upside down when she falls for Randy (Josh Whitehouse), a Sunset Strip punk rocker who challenges everything Julie and the Valley stand for. The film also stars Mae Whitman, Judy Greer, Alicia Silverstone, Peyton List and Camila Morrone.
The single is an infectious, spot-on remake of the Go-Go’s iconic smash single, “We Got The Beat,” featuring a strong vocal performance from Rothe, previously known for her role in La La Land and a breakthrough performance in the Happy Death Day series. It also features vocals from Ashleigh Murray (Riverdale, Katy Keene), Chloe Bennet (Agents of Shield) and Jessie Ennis.
Fan’s of 80’s influenced pop will find lots to love here, with production that’s shiny, neon and overall irresistible. Stream “We Got The Beat,” here.
