The Weeknd has released the sultry remix of “In Your Eyes” featuring Doja Cat, which serves as the third single off his latest album, ‘After Hours.’ As the nostalgic nu-disco wave continues to take over the Top 40 landscape, both The Weeknd & Doja Cat have proven to be on the frontier of this new trend with their 80s-inspired #1 hits “Blinding Lights” & “Say So (Remix)” featuring Nicki Minaj.
Doja’s hauntingly beautiful wail jumpstarts the jazzy track as The Weeknd channels his inner Michael Jackson. The rising star holds her own against The Weeknd’s sleek and sweet vocals as she paints a picture of a hopeless lover with raging passion on the second verse, delivering such vulnerable lines as “I never lied when I cried for you/And I know you cried too.” Unlike her silly, juvenile public persona, Doja‘s verse showcases an earnest side of the rapper that the general public hasn’t seen on her breakout hits. “In Your Eyes” feels like the older sibling of the ‘Beauty Behind The Madness’ track, “In The Night” which both have been produced by hitmaker Max Martin and describe the visible misery that his lovers have sustained.
“In Your Eyes” is currently sitting at #56 spot of this week’s Billboard Hot 100, but fans can expect it to rise over the next few weeks. With The Weeknd’s chart-topping power & Doja Cat’s ever-growing support in pop music, the collaboration definitely has the potential to earn the duo another Top 10 hit.
