A long-standing force in K-Pop, SEVENTEEN is a group that is often imitated, but never duplicated. In a showing that was rife with personality, the originally 13-member group (minus members Jeonghan and Jun) took over LA’s BMO Stadium for a weekend full of fun. Their fans, CARATs, descended upon the venue to escape their day jobs and dance for almost three hours for two nights in a row. The group’s setlist was full of both fan favorite b-sides and well beloved title tracks for their U.S. Stadium debut.
SEVENTEEN kicked the show off with a fireworks display and vampiric outfits to perform their 2020 single “Fear” meshed into “Fearless”. They hustled through the first segment of the show, hitting recent track “MAESTRO” as well as bold b-sides “Ash” and “Crush”. The second act is a bit of a SEVENTEEN special, in which their signature three subunits perform their own songs. This addition gives members a moment to catch their breath, I’m sure, but not so much the audience. CARATs were launched right into the hip-hop unit’s saucy “Water” and “Monster” before slowing things down a bit as the performance unit held the focus for “Rain” and “Lilili Yabbay”. The vocal unit rounded out the second act with new ballad “Candy” and SVT classic “Cheers to youth”.
The members kept things light and airy after the tear-jerker that is the vocal unit’s portion. The fun-filled third set included a dance battle skit featuring the group’s dancers in inflatable animal costumes, which was truly a sight to behold. The team was able to show SEVENTEEN’s bright side and make their fans smile throughout the whole set, with songs like “Snap Shoot” and “HOME” making an appearance. They continued on to a cooler vibe, changing into streetwear-inspired hoodies and a few hats to perform recent English-language track “LOVE, MONEY, FAME” and last year’s “Super”. The 11 present members are experts onstage, each with their own unique style.
SEVENTEEN exited the stage prior to their signature ‘neverending’ encore before diving into another performance of almost 10 extra songs. At that point, it’s not an encore anymore, it’s a whole new concert. Donning their own tour merchandise, they indulged the audience with quick, shortened performances of fan-requested songs during a very K-Pop-esque Fan vs. Artist dance battle. They hit subunit banger “Fighting”, “HOT”, and “CALL CALL CALL!” before rounding it out with “Back it up” and of course, their never-ending “AJU NICE”.
Altogether, SEVENTEEN have consistently brought concerts for every type of fan, from the casual listener to the rose quartz and serenity blooded CARATs. They’re sure to impress anyone with the stamina and creativity that it takes to put on one of their shows. This tour was lighthearted and fun, giving anyone in the audience a chance to see what SEVENTEEN is really all about.
