The internet’s favorite new pop star, Ashley O, has an opportunity to take her music to the top of the charts and perhaps even the 2020 Grammys.
Following the release of her stellar new EP, ‘SHE IS COMING,’ Miley Cyrus is keeping the momentum going with even more music under her Black Mirror alter ego, Ashley O. Originally featured exclusively in the hour-long episode on Netflix, Cyrus dropped the Nine Inch Nails-inspired tracks “On a Roll” and “Right Where I Belong” on all streaming platforms this Friday.
With “On A Roll,” Cyrus is turning what could’ve simply been a plot device into a cultural moment. The track has real potential to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 after breaking into the Top 20 on the iTunes Song chart, and has even been added onto Spotify playlists like “New Music,” “Pop Rising” as well as Pop Crave’s very own “Pop Cravings.”
The chart potential for “On a Roll” set ups Ashley O for another win: a Grammy nomination for “Best Song Written for Visual Media.” It wouldn’t be unusual for Netflix to push hard for the nomination given the company’s recent success with the Academy Awards – the brand earned 14 nominations total for the 2019 ceremony – especially considering the organic excitement around the two singles online.

Netflix also earned a Grammy nomination in 2014 for “Best Song Written For Visual Media” with Regina Spektor’s “You Got Time,” which served as the credit sequence theme song for Orange is the New Black.
Past winners of the award include “Shallow” by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, “Skyfall” by Adele and “Can’t Stop the Feeling” by Justin Timberlake. Interestingly enough, Hannah Montana was nominated for the same award with “The Climb” from Hannah Montana: The Movie before being disqualified from the race later on.
Whether Ashley O wins the award or not, the thought of Cyrus attending the ceremony as her alter ego is exciting enough.

Between Lizzo’s two-year-old hit single “Truth Hurts”, Lil Nas X’s viral country trap sensation “Old Town Road” and now Ashley O, 2019 has certainly been an interesting year on the charts. Tweet us at @PopCrave to share your thoughts on the new single and its Grammy chances.
